Dear Colleagues!
The 15th Assembly of Petrology and Geochemistry took place in Nagybörzsöny, Hungary, bringing together more than 80 participants from Hungary and several other European countries (Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Austria). For the first time, the annual meeting was held in English and organized with international collaboration, led by the MTA–HUN-REN CSFK Lendület “Momentum” PannonianVolcano Research Group, in partnership with the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Comenius University in Bratislava. The three-day event featured 37 oral presentations, 24 posters, and two field trips to the Banská Štiavnica volcanic and mining area, guided by two excellent Slovakian geologists, Jaroslav Lexa and Peter Koděra. Distinguished keynote speakers included Mihai Ducea, Sierd Cloetingh, Jaroslav Lexa, and Peter Koděra. The conference emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in east-central Europe, supporting young scientists, and maintaining the visibility of Earth sciences. Awards were given to five early-career researchers for their outstanding presentations and to two young scientists for special achievements.
The organizers and the scientific jury of the conference would like to express their sincere congratulations to all young scientists who devoted time and effort to conduct research and present their results at the 15th Assembly of Petrology and Geochemistry. The scientific jury — consisting of Róbert Arató, Samuel Rybar, Viktor Jáger, Alíz Zemeny, Balázs Koroknai, Norbert Németh, and Thomas Pieter Lange — recognized the following young colleagues for their outstanding contributions:
Poster presentation awards:
Margaréta Gazsi (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, HU), for an excellent poster presentation on the age and volcanology of the pyroclastic rocks of the Gelénes-1 borehole (NE Hungary), introducing new and compelling results.
Oral presentation awards:
Beatrix Boglárka Balázs (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, HU), for presenting a new depositional model of a barite-bearing hydrothermal system.
Adriana Stoica (University of Bucharest, RO), for her presentation on the origin of garnets from the South Apuseni Mountains.
Balázs Küzmös (University of Debrecen, HU), for introducing the composition, classification, and origin of two Saharan meteorites.
Kende Fülöp Szűcs (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, HU), for presenting novel results on the noble isotope composition of olivine and the nature of the mantle source of basalts.
Special prizes:
Adrienn Tatár (University of Debrecen, HU), for her presentation on fluid flow processes revealed in the volcanic succession of the Paks boreholes, Hungary.
Botond Gereczi (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, HU), for providing valuable insights into the nature and origin of sphalerite.

This year, the 15th Assembly of Petrology and Geochemistry of Hungary will be organized, and for this special occasion, the professional meeting will be held as an international conference co-organized with Slovakian colleagues.
The conference will be held between the 2nd and 4th October 2025 in Nagybörzsöny, one of the most popular tourist centres of the Börzsöny Mts. The venue for the professional programmes, accommodation and dining will be at the Malomkert Panzió, which will provide a pleasant environment with various leisure activities, too.
This year the conference is organized by the MTA–HUN-REN CSFK Lendület "Momentum" PannonianVolcano Research Group (Réka Lukács - chief organizer, and Barbara Cserép, György Czuppon, Péter Gál, Krisztina Hajdu, Szabolcs Harangi, Máté Karlik, Ivett Kovács, Emese Oelberg-Pánczél, Máté Szemerédi, János Szepesi, Kata Temovski-Molnár, Attila Virág), along with the scientists of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Igor Broska, Milan Kohút), and the Comenius University, Bratislava (Katarína Šarinová, Samuel Rybár). Since the conference is organized as an international event this year, posters and presentations will be in English.
The aim of the conference is to give experts, young researchers and students in the field of petrology and geochemistry the opportunity to get to know each other and their work, and to present and discuss their new scientific results in an informal setting.
Following our initial aim, the field trips will be held in Slovakia, around Banská Štiavnica. Our Slovakian colleagues are happy to lead these field trips and we will have a great opportunity to visit one of the most interesting geological areas of Slovakia on the field trip day (Friday). The participants will be divided into two groups. One group can explore the Central Slovakian Volcanic Field and the volcanic rocks of the Štiavnica composite volcano with the leadership of Jaroslav Lexa. The other group can take part in a field trip focusing on the metallogeny of the region with the leadership of Peter Koděra. Both groups will finish the field trip day by exploring the historical UNESCO World Heritage silver mining town of Banská Štiavnica which is built inside a volcanic center.
Registration with abstract submission is scheduled to open in April 2025.
The billing and organization of the conference will be handled by HBL Travel Ltd. The company can provide a transparency statement and is compliant with the public procurement procedure.
Prizes will be awarded to the best young researchers (under 30 years old) in both oral presentation and poster categories.

A tavalyi sikeres tokaji-hegységi alkalom után idén a jeles évfordulónak tekinthető, 15. Kőzettani és Geokémiai Vándorgyűlésre kerül sor, ami továbbra is a magyar kőzettan, geokémia és társtudományai legrangosabb szakmai összejövetelének számít. Ez alkalommal Nagybörzsönybe, a festői szépségű Börzsöny egyik legkedveltebb turisztikai és kiránduló központjába látogatunk el 2025. október 2. és 4. között. A szakmai programok, szállás és étkezések helyszínét a Malomkert Panzió biztosítja majd, ami kellemes környezetben, szabadidős lehetőségekkel vár felnőtteket és gyerekeket egyaránt.
A konferencia szervezője idén az MTA–HUN-REN CSFK PannonVulkán Lendület kutatócsoport (Főszervező - Lukács Réka és Cserép Barbara, Czuppon György, Gál Péter, Hajdu Krisztina, Harangi Szabolcs, Karlik Máté, Kovács Ivett, Oelberg-Pánczél Emese, Szemerédi Máté, Szepesi János, Temovski-Molnár Kata, Virág Attila), valamint a Szlovák Tudományos Akadémia Földtudományi Intézetének (Igor Broska, Milan Kohút) és a pozsonyi Comenius Egyetem (Samuel Rybár, Katarína Šarinová) szakemberei lesznek. Éppen ezért, az idei vándorgyűlés - rendkívüli módon - nemzetközi konferencia lesz, amely angolul fog zajlani, ezért az előadásokat és a posztereket is angol nyelven várjuk.
A konferencia célja, hogy lehetőséget adjon a kőzettan és geokémia területén és társtudományokban dolgozó szakembereknek, fiatal kutatóknak és hallgatóknak, hogy kötetlen módon megismerkedjenek egymással, megismerjék egymás munkáit, bemutassák és megvitassák új, tudományos eredményeiket, valamint, hogy új szakmai kapcsolatok épülhessenek ki.
A szlovák kollégákkal történő szervezés ideális lehetőséget biztosít számunkra, hogy előzetes terveinknek megfelelően, a terepi napon Szlovákia geológiailag egyik legérdekesebb területére látogassunk el. Osztott program keretében pénteken az egyik csoport Jaroslav Lexa vezetésével a Selmecbányát katlanként körülölelő Közép-Szlovákiai neogén vulkáni területet, valamint az ahhoz tartozó Štiavnica/Selmec összetett vulkán fejlődése során kialakult kőzeteket tekintheti meg. Eközben a másik csoportnak egy a Selmecbánya (Banská Štiavnica) környékének ércesedésére fókuszáló terepbejárásra nyílik lehetősége Peter Koděra szakmai vezetésével. A nap mindkét csoport számára egy rövid sétával zárul Selmecbánya UNESCO világörökségi védettségű óvárosában, ami egy vulkáni központban épült és főként nemesfém bányászatáról, valamint bányászati akadémiájáról híres.
A regisztráció előreláthatólag 2025. áprilisában indul.
A konferencia számlázási feladatait és a szervezést idén is a HBL Travel Kft. segítségével intézzük. A cég tud átláthatósági nyilatkozatot adni és megfelel a közbeszerzési eljárásban való részvétel feltételeinek.
A legjobb (30 év alatti) fiatal kutatók számára előadói és poszter kategóriában is díjakat osztunk ki.

The Assembly of Petrology and Geochemistry is an official event of the Subcommittee on Petrology of the Committe on Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry Section of the Hungarian Geological Society.
