Main research fields

 

Geochemistry, organic geochemistry, including:

- genesis of crude oil, petroleum source rocks, migration oils, maturity of oils, correlation studies;

- biological marker compounds and thermal history reconstruction based on their reaction kinetics;

- thermal degradation of kerogens and studies on pyrolysis yields;

- geochemistry of organic molecular solutes in geothermal waters and tracing their origin.

Degrees of Diplomas:

- Chemical engineer (~MSc) obtained from Technical University of Budapest in 1971; Thesis: Algyői feltételezett anyakőzetek komplex szerves geokémiai vizsgálata (Complex organic geochemical investigation of the presumed source rocks of the Algyő field); the modified version of the thesis titled as "Organic geochemical studies on some source rocks of Algyő (in Hungarian)" was a Prize-winning paper for Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1973.

- Doctor Technicus obtained from Technical University of Budapest (in the field of analytical chemistry and chemical technology) in 1980; Thesis: A Hód-I jelű fúrásban lejátszodott kőolajképződés geokémiai vizsgálata (A study of oil genesis in Hód-I borehole). In 1980-1981 I spent a year at Organic Geochemistry Unit of School of Chemistry of University of Bristol as a postdoctoral fellow.

- Candidate of Earth Sciences (and Ph.D.) obtained from the Scientific Qualifier Committee of Hungarian Academy of Sciences  (in the field of organic geochemistry) in 1994; Thesis: A biológiai markervegyületek hazai alkalmazása a szénhidrogén kutatásban (Application of biological marker compounds in hydrocarbon exploration for Hungary).

More than 30 years experience in geochemistry and analytical chemistry related to organic materials in geosphere (natural and disposal waters, soils, sediments, crude oils, coals, etc.) applying relevant analytical methods (UV/VIS, IR, GC, HPLC, GC/MS, etc) and special separation and enrichment methods. 

 

Prizes:

- Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1973 for the paper submitted to competition: ?Organic geochemical studies on some source rocks of Algyő (in Hungarian), Budapest

- Research Award obtained from the Section of Earth Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1987 for two papers (Sajgó, Cs. and Lefler, J.
